It’s that time of the year again! Tokyo Game Show 2019 may be a ways down the road—with the event set to run from September 12 to 15 at Chiba’s Makuhari Messe—but the official key visual for this year’s event is here. Ippei Gyoubu returns once again to provide a colorful and attractive poster, with “More connected. More fun.” in place as the tagline.

Connection has been a recurring theme for some of the Tokyo Game Show events. In 2012 it was something along the lines of “GAME is connected by smiles.” 2013’s theme was the limitless evolution of games, while 2014’s was all about “Changing Games: The Transformation of Fun.” 2015 was about playing games with more freedom, and 2016 let us know, “Entertainment is changing. The future is changing.”

The last two years really clung to those changes, especially with the proliferation of virtual reality. 2017’s theme was “Come, to experiences beyond reality” along with with the catchier tagline of “Reality Unlocked.” Last year, the poster simply said, “The curtains open on a new stage.”

Here’s 2019’s visual:

Now, for a trip through time, here are the visuals from 2012-2018 that correspond with the themes above:
